The park  ARCHAEOLOGICAL

The Neolithic Village of S.Andrea has a dense network of well-preserved residential and functional structures, some of which are now kept in sight.

In fact, in the archaeological area investigated, the perimeter channels, with a rectangular plan, of two of the six huts identified in recent years have been consolidated using suitable materials.

To protect these structures, wooden roofs with a double sloping roof were built, surmounted by a mantle of marsh reeds that reproduce the same dimensions and volumes and the same materials as the ancient huts.

In the post holes, which emerged during the excavations, new wooden poles have been relocated so as to be able to describe to the public the original course of palisades and fences located in different points of the village.  

At the southern edge of the area you can see the ancient dry stone fence wall and for its protection a wooden roof with a glass roof was built.  

The tour is accompanied by a series of panels relating to the history of the site, to the residential and functional structures, to in-depth studies on the Italian and local Neolithic.

Since 2010, the reconstructions of some Neolithic buildings in full scale are also visible, set up with materials and objects that are copies of those actually found on the site.  

Inside the park, "themed" events are organized which re-propose the archaic techniques of working and cooking ceramic pots, flint chipping, weaving and cooking of food. It is also possible to experiment with the methods of archaeological research and excavation in a special simulation space in which some structures present in the site of S. Andrea have been recreated (post holes, wells, ovens).  

The entrance consists of a small reception room, where the ticket office, the book-shop and the services are located.

The Archaeological Park Neolithic Village of S. Andrea in Travo, commissioned by the Superitendency for the Archaeological Heritage of Emilia Romagna, designed by Arch. Riccardo Merlo, was created thanks to joint funding from the Emilia Romagna Region, the Municipality of Travo, the European Community, the Piacenza and Vigevano Foundation.
